There has been devastation to our neighbors from hurricane Irene, causing lose of life and lose of possessions. Even if you live on the West coast, we feel their suffering. Perhaps we have loved ones living there, which causes our concern to be even greater.
Many will raise an eyebrow and state "These are the signs of the times, we are living in the last days, repent because the end is close at hand."
I personally, do not believe that the world is about to come to an end, that is not to say that you must believe the same way. I understand that "some" religious leaders are using this catastrophe to bolster their belief that God is going to destroy all sinners and for their safety they should run into their nearest church.
Unlike "some" religious leaders who feed off the fears of their parishioners, by proclaiming "dooms day," I contend that if you truly feel that the end is imminent and there are certain aspects of your personality that needs correcting, then make those necessary changes, be the best person you can be. However, I think it would be unwise to start forming opinions about the lives of our neighbors. judging the actions of others and dividing humanity into who is worthy and who is not.
We live in a world where we expect everything to be the same from day to day, the sun rises, the sun sets, the temperature is within certain parameters and the wind is never to blow harder than what we can bear. And if perchance Mother Nature moves too fast, we are quick to say that "God is angry and we must repent of our sins." Much like the ancient people who sacrificed their young virgins to appease their angry god.
CNN will keep us informed 24 hours a day anything that is of a negative nature, the 6:00 news will keep us up to date and of course there is the newspaper that will give us the news in printed form in case we were unable to listen to the various channels that are dedicated to "keep us in the know" however, how many untold miracles happen everyday that go unnoticed. Only sensationalism is broadcasted and any "Good News" is never put on the front page of the newspaper, leaving it's readers and listeners to believe that there is nothing but bad news to be had.
I am not trying to step on the spiritual toes of anyone that believes that God is bringing an end to the world. But, if that be the case, how will you live your life differently? If you can be more loving, then why wait until disaster reveals itself. If you can be more spiritual, don't wait for a hurricane or an earthquake to shake your spiritual ethics. Be the most loving person you can be NOW, be that helping hand when the opportunity arises. Don't fear the wrath of God. Instead cherish the love that God has for his children and do all we can to ease the pain of those that have lost their home or have lost a loved one.
Allow love to cover and comfort those that are in need of your care. Be an ambassador for Love.

Very wise words, Cinda -- thank you! So few humans today believe they are truly worthy of God's love. If they even believe in him/her. God loves us all, "bad" and "good."
